I would teach children music, physics and philosophy, but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning. – Plato
Music education at Dorothy Peacock Elementary is respected as an important component of the full educational experience. Our primary grade students engage in music taught by their classroom teachers and enjoy participating in a concert each December, celebrating the season, and celebrating their learning as young singers.
Once students move into the intermediate grades, it continues to be our custom to provide students in grades 4 and 5 with music instruction involving learning to play percussion instruments and the recorder flute, building singing skills, learning to read notes, and developing an appreciation for various kinds of music.
Students in grade 6 and 7 all participate in our Band program, with instruction in flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, percussion and bass guitar. The bands perform occasionally at assemblies, but look forward to our annul Spring Concert. Our Music teacher is Ms. Lee.
The Spring Concert, usually held during the month of May, showcases the talents of our intermediate department, and includes all students from grade 4 through 7. Before the school year comes to and end, students from all grades are invited to audition for “Dorothy Peacock Elementary Has Talent”.
We are grateful for the ongoing support of the school community. Our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) sets aside funding in its annual budget to support the arts. Performing groups are brought in to the school. Families assist their children in making the most of the opportunities provided through the school. Some of our students have gone on to join the highly regarded Langley Children’s Choir.
