Welcome to Dorothy Peacock Elementary’s website. We are glad you stopped in for a visit. My name is Joanne Rempel and it has been my privilege to be part of this school community since it first opened its doors in September 1998.
A Little Background: Dorothy Peacock Elementary, a K- Grade 7 school. is located north of 88th Avenue, between 202 and 204th Streets and serves the western part of the Walnut Grove Community. We enjoy a wonderful partnership with Langley Township, which enables us to use the park and accessible playground. As well, we are pleased to have Wind and Tide Pre-School as part of our community. Our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) provides ongoing support to the school, providing a balance of educational and fund raising activities for our students.
Our students are guided in their learning by talented and dedicated teachers and support staff who work hard to ensure the needs of all learners are met. Regular home and school communication is strongly encouraged.
Our school mission statement: “Working together as a community, we encourage caring, responsibility, and a love of learning that will last a lifetime” is at the heart of all we do. Our school mission statement was created through the collaborative efforts of parents and staff. As a school community, we embrace the Langley School District’s Purpose, “To inspire all learners to reach their full potential and create a positive legacy for the future.”
Three guiding words: Respect, Care, and Responsibility form our guiding principles and are used in the daily operation of our school. The principles of Restorative Action are used to help resolve any difficulties that arise in classrooms or on the playground.
Leadership opportunities are provided to our Intermediate students in Grade 5-7. Students in Grade 5-7 are encouraged to serve as classroom monitors and/or members of our leadership team, the Peacock Stars. Students in Grades 6 and 7 also have opportunities to be office monitors and to serve as House Captains and Vice-Captains.
I hope this has helped you to learn a little about this wonderful community of learners supported by gifted educators and caring, dedicated parents. Feel free to contact me by phone or email to arrange a tour or to learn more about our school. We hope you will continue to explore our website to see what else Dorothy Peacock Elementary has to offer.
WHEN YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS – WHO SHOULD YOU SEE?
You our parents, are a valued and important link to what the staff does throughout the day. If at any time you have concerns please remember we are here to help. If it is a concern about something in the classroom, talk to the classroom teacher first. If you do not feel you have received satisfaction then you are welcome to bring those concerns to administration. If you have concerns about things on the playground or issues that are not specific to the classroom please feel free to talk to administration. It is also important for teachers to know important things that have happened to your child. A loss, a change in routine or a change in caregivers are examples of things that impact your child’s life and learning. When teachers know, they can help and support your child. We are here to help and support you as we know you are for us.
