Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you all have enjoyed a wonderful long weekend and took time to pause and show gratitude for all the amazing things you have in your life … starting with family and friends. Here is what’s coming up this week.
New Information To Share
West Coast Recess/Lunch: As we head into the rainy season, just a reminder that now, more than ever, we will be having our students outside for their recess and lunch breaks. The fresh air is so important for their learning and general well being. Please be sure to send jackets, boots, umbrellas, etc so they can be outside and stay as dry as possible.
Parent Teacher Interviews: We have Term 1 Parent Teacher Interviews coming up on Tuesday October 27th. We will be holding these face-to-face in your child’s classroom with their teacher. Mrs Lipp will be sending out information to sign up for a time slot. If you are unable to attend on that day, please reach out to your child’s teacher to make other arrangements.
We are asking parents to please enter through the exterior door and to physically distance while waiting for their turn. Please wear a mask while waiting and upon entering the room. We will set things up so that physical distancing is possible and masks may be removed once you are seated. If you have any questions, please reach out to administration.
Halloween At DPE: I know it’s a few weeks out, but we wanted to let families know that we will be celebrating Halloween at DPE this year, although it will look a little different than in the past. We are going to encourage costumes (no weapons or inappropriate themes) and will have some form of a costume parade. We are reminding families that due to COVID19, we DO NOT want any treats sent for classes. We will send more details about the parade as we get closer to October 30th.
Communicating Student Learning: In case you missed it, here is the letter and information sent out by the district this past week regarding changes to the report cards. At Dorothy Peacock we are very excited about this change as it puts the focus on the journey of student learning and aligns with our pilot program of Student Inclusive Conferences for term 2. We will be sharing more information at upcoming PAC meetings and other forms of communication. Be sure to join the district Virtual Town Hall on October 15th at 7:00pm. To join the info session, click here. Prior to this online meeting, you are able to submit questions here. And as always, feel free to ask us any questions you have.
Bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc: Thank you to those who have been following the rules for riding to school. Reminder if students are riding to school to ensure they have a helmet on and once you get to school you must walk your wheels on school property.
Parking Lot Safety: Thank you to all who are following are parking lot rules. For those who are new, or have forgotten: All areas of our parking are one way. You may only park in the designated parking area, not in the drive through or drop off lanes. The “drop off lane” closest to the school is for drop off and pick up only. Just stop, let your the passengers in or out and keep going. If you have to leave your car, please park in the parking lot. There is no drop off or pick up in the yellow cone area. This is a drive through area. Please use the crosswalks if you have to cross the driving lane. If we all follow these rules it will keep our students safe.
Information From Last Week
Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) – Change of Administration Dates: Parents of students in grade 4 and 7 may have recently received a letter from Gord Stewart, Superintendent of Schools, regarding the annual Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) for the 2020/2021 school year. The letter indicated that this year’s FSA would be administered between October 5 and November 13, 2020. Since the letter was distributed to families, the Ministry of Education has decided to postpone the FSA to later in the school year to allow schools and students more time to adjust to the new school circumstances as a result of COVID-19. All Langley students in grades 4 and 7 will now complete the FSA in the new administration window between January 18 and February 26, 2021. More information on the exact dates that students will write their FSA will be made available to parents later in the year. The remainder of the information outlined in the letter still applies. If parents have any questions regarding the FSA, they should contact their school’s Principal.
