April 3, 2022
Happy Sunday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Here is the information you need for the upcoming week.
New Information To Share
Daily Health Check and What to Do When Sick: A friendly reminder to our students and visitors to complete a daily health check prior to boarding a bus or entering a school or District site such as the School Board Office. To help support families in doing their part to keep everyone safe, please review the Daily Health Check and What to Do When Sick guide here. This contains a list of COVID-19 symptoms and guidance on what to do if you become ill. As always, the District is encouraging everyone to continue practice proper hand washing and staying home when sick.
Student Learning Survey: An email went out last week about the parent portion of the Student Learning Survey. Once again, Dorothy Peacock will be participating in the Provincial Student Learning Survey. Below is a link to the instructions on how parents can complete this questionnaire, giving valuable feedback to both the district and our school specifically. We will be having our grade 4 & 7 students complete the survey in the next month along with our own staff. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Davids directly.
New Fire Bell: The district has recently completed an upgrade of our fire alarm system resulting in a new fire alarm sound. We will be having a drill on Tuesday at 11:30, in part to help students get used to the new alarm sound.
Lessons Learned from COVID-19: Survey: The province has launched an independent review and public consultation on the government’s operational response to the COVID-19 pandemic to improve future preparations and responses to emergencies. The goal is to learn about how government agencies worked together to address the effects of COVID-19 that affected everyone and changed rapidly. To provide feedback, you are encouraged to complete an online survey here which is available in multiple languages versions. This survey will remain open until April 20, 2022 at 4:00pm. You can find more information here.
SD35 Drone Camp: The first ever SD35 Drone Camp that we had to postpone earlier in the year will now be taking place on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15 at Yorkson Creek Middle School. The camp is open to any students aged 12 to 17 and thanks to the support of the DLT, we have been able to reduce the student cost to $50 per student. Please see the attached flyer and share with your teachers and school community. Secondary students who are interested should see their school’s Career Advisor for an application form. For Middle and Elementary students interested, you will find a link to the application form below.
Information From Last Week
Mask Guidelines For K-12 Schools: As was announced prior to Spring Break, masks will no longer be required in the school setting for staff and students. We will continue to be respectful of people’s personal choice to wear a mask and will create an environment where those who wish to continue wearing a mask will be allowed to. As always, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Davids if you have any questions.
Jump Rope For Heart Kick Off: This week will be our kick off for Jump Rope For Heart! We will be doing all on-line donations this year and will not be sending home the envelopes. Students have the opportunity to win prizes by having family and friends donate. You can click here for all the information as well as the link to go and donate. Our Jump Rope For Heart Event Week will be April 19th – 22nd.
Walking and Wheeling To School: As we enter the warmer months, we will have more and more students walking and wheeling to school. This is a good time to remind everyone of the expectation to use the sidewalks and crosswalks at all times. Also, please dismount your bike/scooter once you reach the school property. We also ask that parents who are driving to please continue following our safety rules in the parking lot as well as the pick up/drop off area.
